Why you need to dish the secret sauce to your clients.

Why Your Clients NEED You to Dish the Secret Sauce

We live in a world where transparency is everything. Everyone wants to understand what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Especially in regards to work that you do on their behalf. They want your secret sauce.

As they should. However, many people are scared of total transparency.

“But if I tell clients how to do what I do, then they won’t need me.”

And I get the fear. I really do. However, while it may be true in part, it’s not going to make you lose business.

On the contrary, transparency and sharing your process builds trust with three groups:

1. Your existing clients. They will love you for explaining what you’re doing it, why, and what they get out of it.

2. Your future clients. They will appreciate understanding what you do. And they will very much appreciate that you’re giving them a behind-the-scenes tour.

3. Your potential referral base. These folks are DIYers who might not pay for the service either way, but who are legitimately interested in learning how to do it. This group probably has the time but not the money. However, they will tell their friends about you and will send countless people your way. And, once they’ve successfully bootstrapped their business and have a budget, they might just turn into group #2.

But here’s the kicker.

Just because you tell people the step-by-step process on how to make the secret sauce, doesn’t mean that they can do it exactly the way you can. After all, they don’t have your brain. And that’s what makes your secret sauce recipe so special — your brain is your secret ingredient.

Let’s take the cooking metaphor a little further. Making rice is so simple anyone can do it? Right? Wrong. I cannot make rice. Really, I can’t do it. I can mix and match any sauces and flavor profiles, but I can’t make rice. I don’t have that je ne sais quoi.

So in the spirit of transparency, I want to give you a gift. It’s my 10-Point Website Checkup. It’s free, no strings attached. And you can use it to go through your website and see how it measures up. Get it here.
